Meet Gerald
Gerald Greene began his career as a teacher and cattle farmer, which he continued during the early years of his service in the legislature. Those experiences are what led Gerald to public service in the first place. His neighbors and coworkers shared the challenges they faced – their tax burdens, the need for better roads, lacking school resources. All of the needs of rural communities that can sometimes feel a long way from Atlanta.
Over the years, Gerald worked his way into a leadership position on the powerful House Appropriations Committee. He has used that position to make sure southwest Georgia gets its fair share of state resources, like an $18 million investment in George T. Bagby State Park in Clay County.
Gerald always delivers results. The nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking ranked Gerald Greene the second-most effective member of the entire 180-member Georgia House for the 2023–2024 legislative term, more effective at moving legislation than 99% of his colleagues.
Gerald represents nine counties, which is a lot of ground to cover. He is known throughout the district for being accessible, responsive, and willing to help when somebody calls. His legislative service has been just as broad as his geographic territory. From serving as Chairman of State Properties during major work on Georgia’s correctional system to serving as Co-Chairman of the Rural Development Council, Gerald has made rural Georgia his focus, and the focus of his colleagues too. Today, he serves as Chairman of State Properties and Vice Chairman of Appropriations, while also serving on the Rules, Economic Development and Tourism, Public Safety and Homeland Security, Retirement, and Rural Development committees.

Gerald's Priorities
Tax Cuts
You know how to spend your money better than the government does.
That’s why I’ve supported cutting the state income tax, fought for relief from rising local property tax valuations, suspended the gas tax when families needed it most, and helped deliver tax relief that is saving the average Georgia family $1,200 a year.
People are working hard for their money. I want them to keep more of it.
Education
I started out as a teacher. So this one is personal to me.
To be a teacher, especially in a rural community, is one of the most special careers you can choose. You give children a sense of the world. You give them confidence and self-worth. You help give them a future.
I’m proud of our $100 million investment in literacy coaching and instruction to make sure our children are reading on grade level, proud that we’re expanding access to Pre-K, and proud to have delivered teacher pay raises and continued investing in our public schools year after year.
Energy
In rural Georgia, utilities mean a whole lot more than the power bill that shows up every month, which I know can still be too high.
We need a strong, modern power grid that can stand up to storms like Hurricane Michael. We need broadband reaching every corner of our district. And as Georgia grows, we need to make sure families aren’t stuck paying the costs of massive new energy users.
I’ve worked on all three. Better infrastructure. More broadband. And safeguards to protect residential ratepayers from costs that should be paid by large-load customers.
Public Safety
I will always stand with the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe, but saying you support law enforcement isn’t enough. You have to give them the tools to do the job.
As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I’ve worked hard to make sure our law enforcement officers are fully funded and have the resources they need to protect our communities.
Healthcare
My goal is pretty simple: quality, affordable healthcare close to home.
You shouldn’t have to drive 45 minutes for every medical need. That’s why we’ve invested in local clinics, telemedicine, and incentives to bring more healthcare providers to rural communities. Meet the need where it is.
I’m also proud of our work to make sure mental health is treated like physical health when it comes to insurance coverage, and we’ve passed insurance reforms that give the state stronger tools to hold bad actors accountable.
For me, it always comes back to access. Good care. Close to home, and at a price families can afford.
